My First Day of Work

(1) Ben: Listen
Hi, Grace. I'm Ben. I'm the new [vocab word=office]office[/vocab] [vocab word=assistant]assistant[/vocab].

An office assistant helps other people in the office. He or she sends emails, answer phones, buy things, and remind people of schedules.

(2) Grace: Listen
Welcome, Ben! I'm Grace.
(3) Ben: Listen
Nice to meet you, Grace.
(4) Grace: Listen
Come. Let me show you around. This is your [vocab word=desk]desk[/vocab]. That is the [vocab word=break room]break room[/vocab]. The [vocab word=lunch break]lunch break[/vocab] is at 12:30 until 1 o'clock.

"Let me show you around" means "I will show you the office." "at 12:30 until 1 o'clock" = "12:30 - 1:00".

(5) Ben: Listen
Okay. [vocab word=Who]Who[/vocab] is my new [vocab word=supervisor]supervisor[/vocab]?

"my new supervisor" is 1 person. So, we use "is", NOT "are". For more than 1 supervisors, we say, "Who are my new supervisors?"

(6) Grace: Listen
I'm your new [vocab word=supervisor]supervisor[/vocab]. Ask me any questions.

"any questions" here means all questions are okay.

(7) Ben: Listen
Nice. Who is the office [vocab word=manager]manager[/vocab]?
(8) Grace: Listen
Mr. Smith is the office manager.
(9) Ben: Listen
Okay. Who [vocab word=answer]answers[/vocab] the phone and emails?

"Who" is the subject. Here, it's just 1 person. So, we use "answers" (third person singular).

(10) Grace: Listen
Bob answers the phone. You answer the emails.
(11) Ben: Listen
Who is Bob?
(12) Grace: Listen
Bob is the [vocab word=other]other[/vocab] office assistant.
(13) Ben: Listen
I see. Who cleans the office? Do I clean the office?

"Who" is the subject. Here, it's just 1 person. So, we use "cleans" (third person singular).

(14) Grace: Listen
No. The cleaning [vocab word=lady]lady[/vocab] cleans the office every night.

"Cleaning lady" = the lady that cleans the office.

(15) Ben: Listen
Okay. Who [vocab word=greet]greets[/vocab] the guests and talks to them?

"them" = "the guests".

(16) Grace: Listen
Bob does that. But, please learn from him.

"that" = "greets the guests and talks to them".

(17) Ben: Listen
Yes, for sure. Who buys [vocab word=snack]snacks[/vocab] and water?

"for sure" means "of course".

(18) Grace: Listen
You do.

"do" = "buy snacks and office supplies".

(19) Ben: Listen
Okay, no problem.

"No problem" means "Of course" or "Yes, sure."

(20) Grace: Listen
Are there any other questions?

In a question sentence, we use "any", not "some". Also, after "any", we use the plural noun ("questions"). "Is there any other question?" is WRONG.

(21) Ben: Listen
No. Thanks for the help.
