Party Disaster!

(1) Perry: Listen
How was the party yesterday?
(2) Julie: Listen
It was [vocab word=awesome]awesome[/vocab]! I [vocab word=pick up]picked up[/vocab] my sister and we went there together.

"I picked up my sister" means Julie drove to her sister's home, got her sister in her car, and drove to the party together.

(3) Perry: Listen
We spent a lot of time to set it up, so I'm glad that you enjoyed it.
(4) Julie: Listen
The music and the food were really good. Did you spend a lot of money?
(5) Perry: Listen
Don't worry about it. Did you [vocab word=get along with]get along with[/vocab] the new people in the party?

"Get along with people" means to be friendly with people; to not fight against them.

(6) Julie: Listen
Yeah. I [vocab word=hit off with]hit it off with[/vocab] a couple of people. I had to leave early because I needed to get up early the next morning.

"Hit it off with ..." means to enjoy conversation with someone because you have similar interests. "It" doesn't really mean anything. It's just there.

(7) Perry: Listen
What time did you call up the taxi?
(8) Julie: Listen
10 PM.
(9) Perry: Listen
Oh. So, you don't know what happened after you left.
(10) Julie: Listen
What happened?
(11) Perry: Listen
Jake came up with a [vocab word=lame]lame[/vocab] joke about Harry's hairstyle, and Harry [vocab word=curse]cursed[/vocab] at Jake.

Jake told a stupid joke about Harry's hairstyle.

(12) Julie: Listen
Then what happened?
(13) Perry: Listen
Jake [vocab word=fill up]filled up[/vocab] Harry's hat with his drink, and they got into a physical fight. We had to [vocab word=break apart]break them apart[/vocab]!

Jake poured drink into Harry's hat. Then, they started a fight. Perry and other people tried to stop the fight ("break them apart").

(14) Julie: Listen
Are they okay with each other now?
(15) Perry: Listen
No! They don't want to [vocab word=apologize]apologize[/vocab] to each other. Their [vocab word=friendship]friendship[/vocab] might [vocab word=fall apart]fall apart[/vocab]!
(16) Julie: Listen
That's too bad! They grew up together. One of them should [vocab word=give in]give in[/vocab] and apologize.

"One of them should give in" means either Harry or Jake should say "Okay, I was wrong. Sorry."

(17) Perry: Listen
They are both too [vocab word=stubborn]stubborn[/vocab]!
